Stored energy electrically sustained two-axis free gyroscope, one axis measuring
One axis measuring, two-axis free gyroscope actuated, by spring stored energy, sustained by an electric motor. Operates for at least 10 minutes. Intended for use in the moderate accuracy, medium range missile and torpedo fields, where rapid activation time along with long mission operation at constant RPM is required. It is activated by remote electrical pulse actuating an electro-magnet for spring release. It has two pickoff options in its outer gimbal (see below in more detail). 1) Encoder 2) Conductive potentiometer. The GE-2846 has a special device that allows recaging without opening the gyro, by way of special tooling supplied with the gyro. It is therefore certified to 25 life cycles and is certified for the Mark-46 Torpedo.
